There are so many interesting things to see and do in the Rumson-Fair Haven area! Last month there was a spectacular display of pristine classic automobiles at the Hop Brook Farm in Holmdel. The annual event is a fund-raising charity event for Horizons, a non-profit organization that helps underprivileged kids with summer enrichment programs in math, reading and life skills. Since the event started in 2008 it has raised over $200,000 for local charities.
The event is called a “Concours d’Elegance” because it’s a competition of elegant automobiles, and the term originally was used to describe an old French tradition dating back to the 17th century when noblemen paraded fancy horse-drawn carriages through the streets of Paris.
At this year’s event we saw makes of automobiles that I’d never seen before, like Dusenbergs and Hupmobiles. In addition there was a Stanley Steamer and an electric car from the early 1900s (it looked like an old car, and we saw it coming but it made no noise). Here are a few photos that I took at the event.
