When I sell a home to people who are new to our area they often ask me to recommend a good electrician, or plumber, etc., and I give them the names of perhaps 3 people who get good feedback from our clients. However, if someone asks me what the best vacuum cleaner is, I only give them one name: Miele.
I’ve owned the little yellow Miele canister vacuum cleaner in the photo for about 18 years, and this was the first year it required service (to replace the power cord). That’s an amazing track record, especially since we’ve always had dogs during these past 18 years. When I first bought the unit, I picked it because it was one of the quietest vacuums available, and one that came with a true HEPA filter. Although Miele made many improvements in their vacuum cleaners over the years, they still manufacture them in Germany and they’ve kept the sizes of their replacement filters the same. A brand new Miele canister vacuum is even quieter than mine is, but the HEPA filter in the new one fits my 18 year old vacuum perfectly.
If you want the air in your home to be as clean as possible, don’t buy a “bagless” vacuum cleaner. Get one with high-efficiency replacement bags and a true HEPA filter. Independent testing has proved that the HEPA filter used in a Miele vacuum cleaner captures 99.9% of the particulate matter being exhausted from the unit.
There’s an authorized Miele vacuum cleaner dealer right in Red Bank. Yes, the Mieles are expensive and never go on sale, but they’ll last you a long, long time. If you haven’t heard how quiet a Miele vacuum cleaner is, go and ask for a demonstration- you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Yes, they also do a great job of cleaning- a Miele vacuum recently got the highest rating from the leading independent testing organization (you know the one: it publishes the monthly magazine that doesn’t accept any advertising).
