Does anyone else still celebrate Flag Day?
Today’s the day – June 14th. Driving around town this morning I saw a few more flags than usual, but not many. In the business of our daily lives, many people don’t even remember that there is a day named Flag Day.
So why do we have a Flag Day? It’s to remind us that on June 14, 1777 the Continental Congress first recognized an official national flag. It’s also the 200th anniversary of the writing of our national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner.
Here’s a link to an interesting article, “Flag Day: The power of those broad stripes and bright stars”: http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2014/06/14/flag-day-power-those-broad-stripes-and-bright-stars/ . It has nothing to do with politics; its appropriate for Liberals as well as Conservatives.
