On Wednesday morning my son and I left Fair Haven on a drive to Florida. We took turns at the wheel, and despite a stop in Washington, D.C. and a horrendous traffic jam from Arlington to Fredericksburg, VA, his trusty little Honda CRV averaged almost 27 mpg for the whole trip.
We stopped for gas in Federicksburg and to our surprise found a Wawa station that was selling gas for $3.069 per gallon. It was probably hundreds of miles from the nearest refinery, and yet they were selling gasoline for 80 cents per gallon less than the stations on River Road in Rumson and Fair Haven. Go figure!
We drove through South Carolina in the middle of the night, so we couldn’t see much. It would be fun to come back in the daylight some day and stop off to see what towns with names like “Coosawatchie”, “Yemassee”, “Canadys” and “Santee” look like. The sun rose after we crossed into Florida, but the place names sounded a lot more conventional.
It was a long trip but we both took turns napping and we arrived safely. After one of our rest stops I remembered an old joke that you’ve probably heard before:
Did you hear that Willie Nelson died? Yeah, he was hit by a car while he was playing “On the Road Again”.
To make up for the bad joke, here’s a link to the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TD_pSeNelU&list=RD1TD_pSeNelU#t=0
Tomorrow we’ll take a look at some of the July real estate statistics. Have a great weekend!
