Today is celebrated as Arbor Day, although not many people will take notice. When I was growing up (a long time ago, I know) Arbor Day was celebrated in schools, and teachers always taught us about and recited Joyce Kilmer’s poem, “Trees”, which he wrote while a student at Rutgers. The poem supposedly was inspired by a 200-year-old white oak on the Douglass College campus.
We have lots of trees in the Rumson-Fair Haven area, and they can be beautiful any time of the year. Take a walk through Fair Haven Fields any day and you’ll see what I mean. I have some beautiful trees on the property of my Fair Haven home, and on this Arbor Day I’ll share some photos of those trees with you. The captions are the words from Joyce Kilmer’s poem.
If you can’t get to Fair Haven Fields, just take a ride down River Road, or for that matter just about any street in Rumson or Fair Haven. Dogwoods, cherry trees and lots of other varieties are in bloom now. Enjoy them now and throughout the year.
